The Stonewater Neighborhood has been identified as one of the Top Ten Haunted Sites in the Midwest by the World Institute of Paranormal Study.
Stonewater is known for its charming lakes, tree-lined streets, and lovely homes. However, behind this picturesque suburbia, lies a dark and shaddowy past. Once a Native American burial site, early settlers desecrated the grounds. Over the years, the area continued to see bloody land battles, mysterious deaths, disappearances, the burning down of the infamous Ridge Road insane asylum, unexplained rock quarry deaths, and supernatural sightings.
"There are two main reasons why some neighborhoods may be more haunted than others," said Steven Hiller, the executive director of the the World Institute of Paranormal Study. "First, if it's an old area with a tremendous amount of paranormal history you will likely see continued activity. You see, locations and objects have memories, just like people have memories. For example, if an area - or neighborhood - has seen a lot of spiritual activity it will likely continue to see even more of it," Hiller explained.
The other is geology.
"Areas that have unusual magnetic field properties are particularly conducive to ghosts and hauntings," Hiller said. "The Stonewater Neighborhood in Northville, Michigan appears to have both a strong paranormal history, as well as prime magnetic field properties. It's no wonder that there is a lot of paranormal activity there."
